Shrove Tuesday

Last year for Shrove Tuesday, I just made a chocolate cake with white icing and yellow, green, and purple sprinkles.  So, this year, I thought I would go all out and make a real King Cake from this recipe at Catholic Cuisine.  And there are more ideas here for other versions.

Liz and Jake help with the mixing.

Final product!

So, ignore the fact that the King Cake is still on the cookie sheet and that my icing was runny (and brown--I opted to substitute vanilla extract for the lemon juice in the icing) and the cake came out a success.  I did hide 4 quarters in it instead of a baby or a gold coin, just to keep Liz from arguing with whoever actually got said item!
