{pretty, happy, funny, real}--Chicken Edition

One of our Australorps, Stinker.
Her feathers are a pretty blue-green in the sunlight.
She's called Stinker because she is always getting out and
trying to convince us to give her snacks.

Nathan holding Stinker.
He's pretty happy that one of the chickens is friendly enough to be carried.
He might participate in 4-H with her next year.

My big ol' mean cat is kind of scared of the chickens.
Pilchard is normally a force to be reckoned with.
But he mostly just tries to pretend that the chickens aren't there
and hopes that they just leave him alone.
Likewise, Sally, the beagle, just ignores the chickens.

Our first egg, found this morning!
It is a green egg so we know it came from one of the Araucaunas.
These boys were pretty excited.
And as I was typing this up, Jacob ran in with another green egg!

A moss-covered log from our hike on Sunday.
If you look close, you can see teeny tiny little ferns amid the moss.
My camera just wouldn't take a picture any closer.

Just hanging out.
Starting on a hike.
Looking for fossilized treasure.
For the record, this was from our first hike (aka before the sign).
There was no treasure.
We didn't take anything home, see below!

Funny because I first thought "weird, a no hunting sign on a trail?"
I mean, who hunts in a park?
Then, I saw the pictures.
No Hunting: trilobytes, cranes, or irises.  :)
In actuality, No Hunting: fossils, birds, or flowers.
Still, I've never seen a sign like this one before!

Peter is 7 weeks today!
Time goes fast.
Finally finding some joy in just wiggling and smiling at our friend, Star.

Hot enough to fry an egg...

Sometimes you have to do crazy things in the name of science...
on the hottest day of the year...

There was a little snippet on the radio yesterday about the saying "hot enough to fry an egg"...
and we just had to see if it was possible...
after ten minutes...starting to get a little "white" in the white...

after forty mintues...the thermometer is cooking but not the egg...

and for the record, I don't think we cooked it.
We evaporated it!

The local weatherman says it is actually 95 degrees out right now, but it sure feels hotter!

How to get the dishes done.

In the morning...

Or at night.

A bath is Peter's delight!

And the only sure-fire way to have my hands free for as long as it takes to fill up the sink!

I don't know that this is technically "pretty"--but having all your kids look semi-normal in one picture is pretty to a mama!

First smiles caught mid-stream.
He is six weeks old today and weighed 10lbs at his appointment this week.
Peter's actual first smile was July 3rd.
I'll take anything I can get!

My pyromaniac husband at the 4th of July.
He puts on a great show with his brothers every year!
They crack me up with how giddy they are at lighting up even the smallest things like bottle rockets.
And then... there are the artillery shells!

I was geared up and ready to try some of these zucchini recipes in the latest issue of "Out Here"--
Tractor Supply's magazine (gourmet, I know).

But, I am out of eggs!
To the fridge with the grated zucchini!
So much for that half hour I had with a sleeping baby....

Baptized in Christ!

Peter James
Baptized July 10, 2011
St. John the Baptist Church

Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God,
and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. But you are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises" of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were "no people" but now you are God's people; you "had not received mercy" but now you have received mercy.
                                                                                             --1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10

Peter was so peaceful during the baptism!  Not a peep from him!

With his godparents.
With his siblings.

Cake made by Grandma!

It was a blessed day!  Lots of fun and food afterwards and oh, how I do love the smell of Chrism on their forehead!

Random Funny.

On the sign of a local candy shop:

Seven days without chocolate makes one weak.

I'd definately agree!  Gotta love homophones.
