Hot work.

My aunt and uncle blessed us with an above-ground pool a few years ago.
The temps have been hovering around 100* the last few days.

I guess it is somehow one of those funny-ha-ha's to be putting in a pool exactly when you need it the most, lol!

First fruits.

If nothing else, you can always count on zucchini!

Flashback Friday.

Flashback to an earlier time in our family life, same month.
June 2009
Racing cars at the Lego Store, Orlando.
In the line-up: Patrick, Jacob, another little boy, Nathan.

Btw: this Lego Store is by far the best we've been to.
I think it has something to do with the fact that the store spills out onto the boardwalk and the employees facilitate fun. :)

round button chicken

Pretty.
Chicken by the hydrangea.
I just love the late afternoon sun.

Happy.
All the boys on one couch.
Coke slushies (made in the ice cream maker) on the front porch.
Yum!

Funny.
A happy toothless Jacob in the pool.
I think it is just funny to me because I know what his teeth look like up close and just the image of him makes me giggle.
He's adorable.

Real.
Poultry testing.
Our birds are clean from avian disease and they can participate in the fair.

Dog training workshop.

The real is that as the fair gets closer, 4-H heats up and I feel a bit like a 4-H failure because I'm having a hard time keeping up with it all.
And, Nathan is immensely frustrated because Mae isn't doing very well at her dog training.
She is a very stubborn pup.
So, he could use a few prayers that she starts cooperating enough to not embarras him totally at the fair.
He could use a confidence boost!

Walking to the beach.
It is amazing to me to think that my family was half the size then!

Note to self.

When leaving upon a week long vacation, it would really be best to make sure the coffee maker has been emptied and the filter removed.  It really is quite a pain (and disgusting) to try and clean the mold out of all those little crevices.

Beach Memories.

We spent last week at the Outer Banks with our extended family.  We had a lot of fun but we didn't get much beach time!  The weather was so blustery that the beach wasn't very pleasant for any of us, especially the littler ones.  Luckily we had one good day of weather and the kids still had a blast hanging out with their cousins.
Our only family photo from the whole week!
(How'd we manage to forget to get one on the beach?)

Peter started the week off with an ear infection but by midweek decided that maybe this sand-n-water stuff was fun!
Liz still enjoyed the beach in spite of the wind.

And on our one good day, I did manage to catch each kid enjoying themselves:

On the other days we snuck in some off-beach fun:

Climbing the Corolla lighthouse.

Hunting crabs at the Whalehead club.

Visiting the Wright Brothers National Memorial.

The kids really enjoyed earning the Jr. Ranger badge and we learned a lot too!

We had a great week but going away really makes you appreciate coming home again!  Something about sleeping in your own bed is really nice.  :)

The race heats up.

I don't know how Obama can win with someone named "Coward" voting for him!
So far, Peter is winning 7-4.
Good thing he has a big family.

June 6, 2012

He believes in the auto industry.

(He has no financial backing--he's hoping to win on looks alone!)

June 5, 2012

He's upset about the economy.

Baptismal Birthday.

Happy baptismal birthday, Nathan!

Happy 1st Birthday, Peter!

Happy 1st Birthday, Peter!
We love you so much and are so thankful for the gift you are to all of us.
We all enjoyed celebrating your life with you on this first birthday!

You decided that brownie is better than cake.
You still like the candle the best, though.

You were excited about the red box that your brother Jacob lovingly wrapped with Christmas paper and electrical tape!
You still had no interest in opening it, though.
However, after your siblings generously helped you out by opening your present and trying it out thoroughly for you, you did finally grasp that it was for you!

One is fun!
We can't wait to see what this year holds for you, our baby bear.
We love you, Peter!

My husband and his younger brother chair-surfing.
A favorite beach-time activity that has resulted in lots of fun and quite a few wrecked, or lost, chairs!
