One Month.

It's hard to believe that it has been over a month since Sophia was born!  Here's a recap of some of the events of the last month.

We started off a little rough... Jaundice levels topped out at 17.9 and she got put on bililights and daily home health visits to have her blood drawn.  5 days on the biliblanket and it wasn't the most peaceful thing but better than having to live at the NICU.

We tried to make the best of it and spent our time gazing at Sophia lovingly.  They just can't get enough of her!  Carrie has been a doting big sister.
Dad made sure to keep the fun going.  I didn't get to photograph much but I did get a safari ride in route.  The dogs were "dinosaurs" and they threw dog food out to them.  Fun for everyone!  And popsicles to boot.

Patrick had his 8th grade graduation that I missed.  (Because Sophia and I had to pretty much stay plugged in.  We weren't taking any chances on the levels going back up!)  He enjoyed himself and we are excited for the next big thing--high school!

At eight days old, the biliblanket came off and we thought we were in the clear.  Until that night when Sophie aspirated some reflux and wasn't breathing and we landed overnight at Children's Hospital.  She's been our baby of firsts!  Earliest baby, first to have jaundice, first for an ambulance ride, first for a 911 call!  We are really really hoping that the "firsts" end there and doing our best to lean on our faith and prayers for this little lovebug!

At ten days old, she got her first bath at home.  She wasn't so sure about it in the beginning and then realized--hey, this IS great!
She is the smiliest little girl both awake and asleep.

Enjoying some floor time on a very special blanket made by her cousin.  I love the colors!

We all sure love our little Sophia.  We can't get enough of her!  At her last visit, she was up to 8lbs 9oz.  So she is definitely growing and thriving.  God bless Sophia!

Birthday Buddies.

Elizabeth celebrated her 10th birthday at the end of May.  Her birthday buddy is Peter, who had a birthday the day after Sophie was born.

For Elizabeth's birthday, we managed to get in our traditional trip to the zoo.  We always enjoy deciding what animals we will see that day and being outside.  Liz #1 pick was the flamingos this time.
 Sister love.
We were laughing because this bird was so close we could touch him.  We were having fun texting Dad pics that looked like the bird is on Jacob's head (he's not).  Rare for a bird to put up with our antics!
We came home and enjoyed birthday brownies with our double digit beauty!

Since we were still in the hospital for Peter's birthday... we celebrated when we got home the day after with an ice cream cake (we've never done that before!) and some presents.
We think we did a good job making up for the missed celebration.   Peter was really excited to be six!  Next year, we will have another birthday buddy to add to the fun!

Welcome Sophia!

Sophia Anne
Born June 1, 2017
7:53 pm
6lbs 15oz, 19.5 in long

Sweet Sophia surprised us with a 4 week early arrival!  My water broke around 4:30 am and it was my longest, most stressful labor ever.  We are so thankful that she is here...safe and sound!   Ken likes to call her "tiny thing"  ...if you've ever seen the movie Storks then you'll get the reference.  Lots of Storks quotes going on here lately!

Tired but happy!

The look on Carrie's face says it all...she's so happy to be a big sister!
The two little boys were too nervous to hold her in the hospital but have been happy to snuggle her at every chance they get since we've been home.

A quick family photo before we headed home!

April in pictures.

I love when the weather finally turns nice enough for a lot of time outdoors.  Kites, bubbles, and tree climbing have all been the big things to do lately!

We think baby girl has some really chubby cheeks going on!

When the weather is not so nice, coloring and listening to audiobooks are always a good diversion.

Fun at a local park while the older boys were away.

Oversized, over-chubbed mini rex.  It's like an oxymoron.  But he's cute.
We found the Easter bunny and he much prefers eating my hostas over carrots.

Lots of work to be done!  Dad gets a lot of help.

This handsome guy went to Prom with friends for the first time and had a blast!  I'm so glad that he did and enjoyed himself!

Easter blessings!

A few of our memories from Easter this year:

These three helped me make the Resurrection garden this year on Good Friday.  We didn't plan ahead enough to plant grass but we pulled through with sedum and moss from the garden.  They really love the hands-on aspect of this project!  After a busy Holy Week, it was nice to tie everything together for them.

These two bunnies had a fun Holy Saturday spent with my side of the family.  Egg hunt and all.

The required Easter morning photo on the steps!  It has to happen before baskets can be found!  :)

The baskets were hard to find this year and we had to resort to a lot of "hot/cold" to help some out.

More required photo taking before Mass!  Just the girls...

Add in five boys...

And finally, a slightly awkward (yet glad to have it!) family photo right before Mass!

Easter blessings to all of you and yours!  Alleluia, He is Risen!

March Fun.

In totally random order.... some of our March fun.

Ken and I went to the Children's Hospital Celestial Ball for the third year in a row.  Good food, good fun, lots of dancing and an excuse to get all gussied up.  Once a year, I get to see Ken in a tux!

Liz snapped this pic for me before we left.  It seemed like a good opportunity for a bumpie.

Snow made a very unwelcome appearance mid way through the month.  After 70 degree temps, it seemed unfair and I can verify that my daffodils did not like it.
The only bonus to snow was that Peter finally got to give his Christmas present a try.  It surely seems a bummer to get the one thing you really wanted and then not have a chance to use it!  So, we were thankful for the opportunity.
These two are peas in a pod.  Always creating.

Took a hike with the crazy dog for Jake's bday.  We tried to wear her out but I think she wore us out.
Carrie is always looking for a snuggle.  Even on a hike.
Ultimate is in full swing.  We had our locally hosted tournament in March.  Fun but cold.  Patrick enjoyed winning at rock-paper-scissors against the opposing team.

Junior Ultimate started as well.  Nicholas was pretty against playing until he actually gave it a try (albeit with threats and promises both from Mom).  Now he looks forward to it every week!

Quintessential March.  In like a lion, out like a lamb.  Good old fashioned tree swinging is always fun!
